On August 29, 2025, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) introduced the Environment Audit Rules, 2025—a transformative step toward strengthening India’s environmental compliance framework.

These rules establish a system of self-regulation and independent auditing, empowering accredited private environment auditors to supplement the oversight of State Pollution Control Boards (SPCBs).
